I'm using Project 64 1.6. The plugins that seem to work best are Jabos Direct3D8 1.6, Aizmer's HLE Audio v0.56 WIP 2, Jabos Direct Input7 1.6.
I'll be playing Ocarina of Time (I have not tried this with any other ROM) and Project64 will randomly crash. It completely lags up my computer, so I have to hit Alt+F4 to close it, which takes a while. After this happens, Project 64 will completely freeze up whenever I try loading any ROM, whether it be Ocarina of Time or what have you. 1964 also seems to not load any ROMs after Project 64 crashes. The only solution that I have come up with is restarting my computer. After I restart my computer, everything works fine until Project 64 randomly crashes again. The crashes seem to happen anywhere between 45 minutes to 8 hours.

Here are my Specs:

Windows XP Media Center Edition
AMD Athlon 64 Processor
2.19 GHz
3.25 GB of RAM
GeForce 9800 GT Graphics Card

Anybody know exactly what's going on here?

You can try changing memory-update settings to secure from crashes in the future.

No I don't know about your specific case.

Any particular settings that you would recommend?

The one controlling checking is self-modifying code method.
To set options like that, right-click game for "Edit Game Settings".

This option is not available if advanced settings are hidden.
To disable hiding of advanced settings check Settings tab of Options/Settings....

Yeah, I knew how to change the settings, I was just wondering if there were any particular settings you recommended.

Change self-modifying code method to "Change Memory & Cache" for increased stability against crash.

While you do get crash problems immediately on starting the game as consequence like you mentioned before, also try setting CPU core style to "Interpreter".
