View Full Version : Rayman 2: The Great Escape problems

Hi, I've been using PJ64 1.6 for some time and have had no problem. However, a few problems arise when playing Rayman 2: The Great Escape. The problems are:
1) Cheats don't work. I checked them online and they seem to be correct, and I followed the cheat guide included with PJ64.
2) The Lums in the game change color depending on the level/area of level. This can be very frustrating because they become extremely hard to see. Same problem with Rayman's projectile attack.
3) This is the biggest problem. When playing The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire, some of the platforms are non-solid. This means I can't hit the hidden temple because I fall into the lava, and I can't finish the level itself because I'm stuck halfway in some of the platforms (and cannot grab the orb that I need). This didn't happen the first time I tried the level (I save stated after entering the hidden temple, then reloaded and explored the rest of the level, came back and started having problems).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the first issue, can you specify how I can see where one or more cheats don't work or have no effect?
For the later ones, a few glitches are native to the default graphics plug-in for Project64. You can try configuring the plug-in or using another, if your system supports it.
Can you install and use Glide64?

I installed the Glide64 Plugin and it didn't help: I still fall right through the ground. Also about the cheats, like if I try the mask cheat and press F9 (like it says) nothing comes up, or if I put on the infinite health/oxygen cheats, I can still get hurt/drown.

I'll check out a few different cheats, compare to these.
In the meantime what version of Project64 are you using?

I'm using the 1.6 build (latest, I think).

Sometimes bad settings can cause clipping issues.
See if this update for "Project64.rdb" affects the issue where you fall through objects.

Just replace the file bundled with 1.6 version.

I replaced the file with the one you linked, and sadly, I still have clipping issues. The issues seem to be slightly better (ground stays solid longer than before) but I still end up falling into the ground (by the way, I'm not falling through the level, just like halfway into the ground). This is an issue only because the parts I'm at are either above lava (so falling slightly through kills me) or trying to carry an orb (so falling through makes me drop the orb and unable to pick it up). If it helps, I'm running Vista SP2 and PJ64 on compatibility mode.

Actually I need to fess something, I mistook this for older Rayman.
Since this is Rayman 2 that means the testing I did, wasn't for subject.
I'm not at all familiar with that game, and I'm sorry for this delay.
I can still test the part of game where you experience the clipping issues. Will you upload a save state so that I can warp to where and test this?
I'm good with starting on the cheats issues now that I know what game; if need be I can make them myself.

You don't really have to worry about the cheats; I was going to use them to see if I could get past the clipping issues (earlier in the level) with them, but they didn't seem to work. I don't plan on using them once the clipping issue is solved.
Also, here is the link to the saves. The default save should be in the hidden temple, and the other save (slot 2 or 3) should be the part later in the level.

I'll check this report over at Glide64 support as well, but I see this.
With the default save state, step forward a bit to fall through a short platform from the lava.
There is chance it is not an issue with plug-ins; I have seen the main emulator affect clips.
Will you test this part of the game using 1964 1.1?
1964 site is http://1964emu.emulation64.com/.

I tried it with the 1964 1.1 emulator and the problem still persists. Could it be the ROM file itself?

The fact that your save state I could get to load justifies we have the same copy, since checking is done to see if save state was made for another version.
For the game to load but with no other issues without the game except just this, would suggest a very inconveniently chosen part of the game to be bad.
What's more, my copy is verified good dump.
It probably is from a lack of support from the graphics plug-in. I am still waiting for answers over at support forum for Glide64.
The last core emulator I want you to try is Mupen64.

How can I convert the save states to work in Mupen64?

There is no convenient way for us.
The only way for us to test using that would be to know how to arrive from a starting game.
