View Full Version : Is this a bad thing?

For one thing, I just signed up, so "hello!"
another thing, one of my friends gave me a copy of Project64 1.7, because 1.6 kept giving me some crazy error, and refused to work. The version he owns is fully paid for. The error asked me to download a new DirectX, but I can't because I am running windows XP SP3, and I have 9.0 while using an Intel for a video card.
So even though from what I know I REALLY shouldn't even ask this, but would it be okay to the admins if I kept this copy, so that I can run Project 64 in the first place?
1.7 runs smoothly and flawlessly, so I thank the developers for doing a good job, and making it compatible.
BTW, if you think i shouldn't keep it, could you recommend another emulator with similar capability?

Well the easy answer would be that if you like pj 1.7 and it works for you then go ahead and donate the $20. But I'm not an admin.
Anyways, one thing to be careful with is that each pj 1.7 file is tied to the account of the person who donated. Thus, by your friend giving you pj 1.7 it could mess with his ability to use 1.7 in the future, since both his 1.7 copy and "your" 1.7 copy is reporting back to the server.

Interesting...
His account isn't even very active on the site anymore. However, he did SPECIFICALLY tell me, "Do NOT download ANY plugins for this new copy. Sware that if you do, you will hand personally delete BOTH copies of Project64 and pay me $20 directly!"
You're explanation probably explains why. He also told me, "As long as you have that copy on your PC don't even think about the $20 donation."
I think he has a good idea what you're talking about.
However, I just recently noticed that the copy says "Leroy Jenkins" at the top.
I think he downloaded a pirated copy... Although it seems as if no specific modifications have changed... Still, he said that he paid the $20. He apparently lied to make people thing that he isn't doing anything wrong. Luckily this copy doesn't have a virus... But still...

Lol. Yup, sounds like you got a pirated copy hehe. Don't feel bad, I used a pirated copy before I donated. But, in the end, I felt it was worth it to contribute to the authors for all their time they spent working on PJ64. I'm a big fan of pirating, but I'm also a big fan of paying for something that deserves to be paid for. It's like freedom of speech....I do my talking with my downloading and my money. For instance, bluray's drm is getting ridiculous, so imagine that everybody in the world pirated blurays, quit buying any more regular dvds, and no one bought any bluray dvds at all. What do you think that would tell Sony? Probably that we love their product but not their stupid rules and restrictions.
:D
Anyways, I hope in the end you will feel that PJ64 1.7 is worth donating for, at least to say thank you to the developers. Besides, that pirated copy isn't the newest thing on the block (in other words, it's a bit dated. Now I don't know the specifics on what's been accomplished since that was pirated, so you'll have to ask some of the veterans around here for an answer to that.)

Hmm... The problem is that, I'm actually a younger person, and haven't decided to open a PayPal account(Or even get a credit card) yet...
I will definetley donate the 20$ and maybe more once I do open the account, but until then this copy is staying, because I cannot lose this, unless I find an emulator of equal power(I doubt that even exsists.) because 1.6 refuses to work on my new comp.
I'm very sure that the one I have is a bit... dated because I cannot even remove codes properly. O.o
