View Full Version : Native .fla save problem

I'm wanting to share a save with people but can't find where it's saving my game. The .fla in the Save folder says it was last modified 2009, and I've been editing the game, so it should say it was modified 2010. Right?

I've checked the paths and they are set to the save folder in project64.. I even deleted it and it still loaded.

I've searched my system and found other .fla files, and none of them say modified 2010 either. Strangely enough the search didn't bring up the one in the actual save folder, just others I have in other folders.

How can I find where it's REALLY saving my game? Native states, not save states. It's set to flash, so it should be .fla

You're right; that's strange.

What was the complete file name of the FLA save?

How is Project64 set to save for that specific game?

To answer the second question you might need these steps.

Choose "Settings..." from the "Options" menu.
Switch to the "Options" tab.
Enable "Hide Advanced Settings", and save and exit this change.
Right-click the game entry in Project64's image browser, and choose "Edit Game Settings".
The option I'm asking for the value you've set for is "Default Save type".

The one there is called WWF No Mercy.fla

The default save type of that game is flashram.

Alright, let's see if you delete that file--or rename the file name to something else--and then start the game, does it get created again under the given name?

This is what happened for me. I deleted "WWF No Mercy.fla", started emulation of the game, and then the file was created once again.

When I delete it, and open Project 64 and the game everything is still there, costume changes, champions, settings, ect.

So it's not using that one, and it should be since it's set to save in that folder.

And the file wasn't created again, right?

I want to make sure that after you deleted it, the file still doesn't exist after initializing the game since then.

Yep, nothing is there now. No fla for No Mercy and my game loaded.

You said before that you did a search for FLA files on your system.

So did you specifically try searching for "*.FLA" everywhere on your hard disk drive, marking an option to include system and hidden files?

I know that you have the Directories options set to store it in $Project64\Save, but until someone else can chip in this is all I can ask.
Since you said none of the FLA files on your disk have been modified this year that you could see in your search results.

Wow, I found it. There was a hidden path in User, AppData, Local, VirtualStore, and the Program Files fodler there. My cheat file was there new also. Everything was dated 2010.

Directory remapping must have been turned on in the mid-time.

virtual store is the standard path for an application to save at when it is run from program files without admin elevation.

Not automatically. I've been using limited Vista with updating for the past couple of years.

MBXfilms, can you tell me how you got to this file location? I am dealing with the same problem.

Yes, automatically.

No program has write permission in the program files folders unless the take ownership hack is used.
