View Full Version : Poor performance on 7, but not XP

I just got a ASUS Eee PC 1201n netbook, which sports a dual core Atom CPU (330), 2GB RAM, Nvidia ION platform (9400M), and a fresh install of 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Naturally, I assumed I should be able to run Project64 with no problems on this machine, but unfortunately I am having some. In Majora's Mask, I get bad FPS drops in clock town and the sound really cracks and stutters (yes audio sync is on); the same goes for other places with lots of NPCs on screen. Other games like Mario Kart don't seem to have this problem as bad, but there definitely is a notable performance difference compared to when I play it on my desktop. I've tried tweaking and switching every plug-in and game setting, turned off my anti-virus and Aero features, tweaked task manager (cpu priority, running processes), etc... nothing is improving it. I then installed XP on another partition and Project64 runs perfect on it! I know XP is still a little lighter than 7, but surely my specs should be able to handle it on both, right?

So what's causing it to slow down on Windows 7? I know netbooks aren't the most powerful machines, but I should be able to run Project64 fine with those specs, especially if I can run games like Quake 4 smoothly on low settings on it. The ROMs are USA region and all my video and sound drivers are up to date. So any ideas? Please let me know if more information is required. Thanks for any help you can give :)
