When I play Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time there is a weird purple square in the top left corner blocking the hearts so I can't see my health. Here is a picture: (I circled the purple block).(Just copy and paste the red writing below because I don't know how to put images up properly).

Please help me.

Looks like you have other issues there too. Try a different plugin.

How do you use another plugin and which one?

We also need some computer specs. Video card, Vista? To change plugins, go to options, settings, then, change the video graphics plugin via drop down list.

The other one to change to is Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2, which may fix or break some things for lower-end video technology (which evidently you have got). Enter the config for either plug-in to get a reading on what your graphics card is.

graphics card lacks dx8 blending.

Yeah, I did this but it just made things worse because now link is wearing a white tunic. So what should I do? Do I have to get a new graphics card if yes which one is the cheapest but will allow me to play this game?

You can try a driver update. Sometimes that fixes graphics glitches with old video hardware.

@rswedlow
I did what you said but now when I try play any game on Project 64 a message comes up saying: 'Cannot open rom because plugins have not successfully initialized'.

I fixed the plugin problem but now I'm back where I started, I still have the purple block.

thats because you have less than a dx6 capable graphics chip, and i doubt the systems has agp.

Best way to solve issues caused by outdated video hardware is to upgrade, though the driver version maintenance is helpful in ways hard to see sometimes.

Could you give a step by step guide coz I don't know how to?

I'm not sure. Basically to get new video hardware people commonly buy it, though not sure on other ways you can get it. I never went to a shop to get such an upgrade so cannot say.
