View Full Version : Game Banners

I have searched this topic in the Suggestion forum and found nothing of importance.

Anyway, my suggestion is simple; a banner of some sort representing a game next to its name,
similar to the Dolphin emulator. Here is a quick mockup so you can get a visual representation of what
I am trying to say:

Why should it be implemented? Besides the fact that it looks nice and shiny, if you have an abundance of
games on your list, this can serve as finding your games quickly by recognizing the banner.

I am no coder, but the concept doesn't sound hard to implement. What do you think?

Been brought up before, I don't quite remember what the responses were. Not that great, though, I think :/ Personally I kinda like it though.

The only thing I could find was this:

Other than that, I couldn't find anything else.

Read that, I personally think I covered all of that up.

Actually that does sound kind of nice. I do have a huge list in Project64's cache, but a listing like that would kind of be cleaner and more visual.

It was brought up before in the form of some BoxArt suggestion Mdkcheatz talked about as well.

While it sounds cool, I think that will only make the UI more cluttered.

Yeah IDK if I'd want it to permanently look like that or anything.

With smaller icons maybe....

Well they already look like they've been scaled, so based on the user's ROM list that would just be another flexibility in a possible implementation.

I actually like that idea abt banners

The banner images better not intergrated alongside 1.7, but just being able to support it. People would draw badass banners, rar'd them up, and then upload for 1.7 users.

No, it's not a bad idea, but who's gonna do it?

Project 64 devs ofc! :D

Maybe as an add-on when the whole thing's finished.

Just like Mic support.

Wait, you mean "who gonna do it" as in "who will draw banners"?

add banner support: devs

draw badass banners: any artist

The banner images would be an add-on.

The UI of the game list in Pj64 1.7 is rather ugly and outdated. It just need better UI and have simple banner support.

TBH I don't think that's hard to implement.

No, I meant "who's gonna write the code to scrape banners from the webs"

Yeah, it'd be cool, but it's not very important atm.

Fetch banners from web? Uhh... sound like harder to implement, imo.

I thought it would be simplier if it just add banners support (add "banner" column into game list in Pj64) and will check if banner images are found within Pj64's directory (namely "banner" folder under its main folder, consisting image files with filename as rom's IDs), they'll show up in game list corresponding roms' ID.

banner support first - someone will eventually draw super badass banners for it.

nah, it's not that hard.

zilmar's the only dude left, and he's not gonna do that shit XD

...But, given the immense standards resultant of recent evolutions (or de-evolutions, possibly), I'm not ruling out the possibility that he might change some aspect of his approach entirely.

I'm sure he's just relaxing and letting the stuff meditate out for a while.
