View Full Version : Letters and Numbers After ROM Names?

I'm just curious as to what all the different letter and number combinations mean after ROM names. Like, some ROMs will have 20 different versions and they'll all be like "Mario Golf (U) [!].z64" or "Mario Golf (U) [b1].z64." I know the E, U, and J are the region, but what do all the other things mean? Are they hacked versions or something? If so, which one is the "original" version?

Here's the GoodCodes.txt file that comes with GoodN64.
I tried to copy and paste the contents but I don't know how to maintain the formatting that's in the file.

GoodN64 is the tool that is used to scan the roms and it gives the results in the brackets [ ].

In relation to PJ64 I believe we are only supporting [!], [a], [o].
These can be considered original.

[f] and [t] will more than likely work.
These have been modified in some way.
[t] is a translation to another language.

I'd say definitely avoid [b] and [h].
These are bad or have been hacked in some way.
