There are some extra experimental features that will do things like this with costs like speed...there are also third-party plug-ins that can show the missing elements in this game that still run on the beta.

would these plugins work on the stable version that would work for this game?

Uh-huh plug-ins will work. The stable version works.

gauntlet legends has issues period. it uses some custom video method for hud and distance display that isn't emulated properly.

which plugins work?

https://ricevideo.bountysource.com/
http://glide64.emuxhaven.net/

Can you install plug-ins? Can you use them after installation?

The first link is more important, since albeit in side-methodical fashion RiceVideo shows missing textures like the HUD to an extent and has been optimized to fix some glitches.

How's RiceVideo work then? It should be faster than Glide64 and manage to emulate the GUI display bar. Can you install it?

ok course i can im not new to the emulator scene i just dont like the plugin based ones half the time cuase you always have to fiddle with something to get everygame just right i much perfer the non pluin based ones like the -psx emulator psx

I'd like to state my experience with Gauntlet Legends. With the Rice Video plug-in it is ALMOST playable. Far better than some plug-ins that sometimes copping out before hitting the Midway logo. This one proceeds through the intro sequence between Garm (I believe his name is) and Skorne and once starts the appropriate items are highlighted (New, Load etc) which I have seen all of them being highlighted and none of them being identified. After character selection the game started, the HUD shows, however, I start getting a lot of flickering and the HUD doesn't function very well.

However this is the closest to playable I've seen Gauntlet Legends.

Perhaps there are certain settings I should have checked?

RiceVideo's INI configuration was really lacking, so I did some touching up for games. Gauntlet Legends was one of the investigations I put days into. I am glad that my reform has reached someone.
The HUD barely displays and of single-conditional setting. If we mess around with the C-buttons that should help try to refresh it. No other plug-ins display the HUD at all.
The flickering is still a known issue today with all plug-ins.

Thanks for testing a familiar game! I haven't touched a cartridge of this game in like 10 years, so I wasn't too familiar with it to give really accurate info.

epsxe uses plug-ins as well. Project64 uses plug-ins.
Every game uses their own code, so every plug-in treats them separately. :) The default plug-in you use for Project64, Jabo's, just avoids some messy but necessary configuration system. It has options you need to sometimes set for certain games, too, so eh why not throw all your plug-ins out? :P
Whatever adventure you've come to, my, lost your touch maybe?

lol i still know how to fiddle with the plugin settings so thats not a problem. i just much perfer the non plugin based emulators like those for the older consles but i can still mess with plugin settings

All plug-ins really do is divide an emulator program.
If the "plug-ins" are built in rather than separate components, there is still configuration within the main emulator app.

I'd like to add a side-note on the flickering issue, the HUD flickers along too and I got a HUGE sound error with Azimers HLE audio plug-in that nearly made my ears bleed so if you do in fact attempt to play using said plug-in and you're wearing a headset I sincerely advise you to NOT DO THAT. Though with this plug-in I was able to hear everything without error up until actually trying to start the first level. With Jabo's plug-in the sound usually just died.

With the HUD, I was able to navigate though rather poorly but enough to be functional. Luckily for me I still have a working N64 and a working copy of Gauntlet Legends though it looks absolutely dreadful on a 1920x1080 TV.

My thoughts exactly. There's a similar issue with TWINE 007, by the way.
Scared the  out of me. I wore headphones, too, with my internal volume up for testing purposes. Thanks for the...heads up.

Hey try a modification of Project64 v1.4 to fix the sound for games like Gauntlet Legends. Re-setting plug-ins necessary

The part about the audio glitch that made it worse is I have this really odd set of headphones, their volume is extraordinarily high no matter how low I turn it down. Compared to my other sets of headphones these blow them away. Quality wise they're great, blowing my eardrums out is just a nasty side-affect.

And wow, the audio fix version works really well, as far as the sound goes. And I loves me some gauntlet legends music.

Edit: Too bad it doesn't make Skorne any easier to understand.

Edit2: Alas, it crashed upon starting the game. I'll be tinkering with it as much as possible, see if I can get everything to run with a modicum of stability.

Edit3: That is, starting actual game play. (Past selecting a character)

Oh well I can't really sympathize for lost ear drums.

Oh if it crashed with an error message what was it? I got in-game with the audiofix version, so something this time is different.

The errors seem to be quite random, I'll get things such as the video freezing with sound continuation or the emulator as a whole will crash (Project64.exe is not responding or has encountered an error and had to close, nothing specific).

The errors occur usually after I've selected a character either immediately after selection, or after I've actually landed in the tower.

Edit: Actually managed to start a level, but Project64 crashed as soon as I tried to shoot down the first generator.

Oh! That's right!! Thanks for returning me the memory.
Gauntlet Legends I put hours almost every day for weeks into re-checking my configuration, trying desperately with all these combinations (not just the average FB-and-R-T-emulation tests) to perfect with what I had. One sacrifice I had to make was that I was able to reproduce a crash (with a mess of triangles and a crash message from my OS) when loading certain levels (namely the very first) with one of the most important elements of the configuration.
See if I get banned from yet another site you kinda start to lose track of the past. It is very important. :)

Do this.
(Options:Configure Graphics Plugin...)
Advanced settings should not have been marked for hiding upon summoning the configuration dialogue.
When the game is running go to the tab "Current Game Settings".
There should be a combo box option for rendering-to-texture emulation. This is a special device often used in conjunction with frame-buffer-related effects. I set this to "Write Back & Reload".

Set this to any of the options above this one. Preferably if you cannot reproduce crashing you want the bottom-most one you can get towards the "Write Back & Reload", while nearing towards None or Hide will cause great issues with this particular game.
if you do make any findings about maybe config suggestions please let me know...then again, being all by myself in my work...why start changing that after five years.
