It is good to see the n64 scene still active. If you want to try emulation on Linux then give Mupen64Plus a try. Mupen64 is an Open Source n64 emulator that does not just run on Linux, but all the common OS these days (Windows, Mac OSX, FreeBSD, and Linux). Well it is not Mupen64 directly, this was developed by hacktarux with the last release being Mupen64 0.5. A new group of developers have decided to make a fork of the original Mupen and called it Mupen64Plus. This fork is project aimed primarily at Linux users with a handful of enhancements. They have release a window version today. Check it out and see what you think.
If you interested in contributing to this project they are more then open to it, so if you a code or just want to test feel free to offer your service to them.

Oh, as an interesting note, my interest in Mupen64 started from a comment here. I started this project a while back at EmuTalk and since then it has been renamed twice, and it is currently being led by Richard42 and served on his SVN server.

It's too difficult make a linux version of Pj64???
Don't sponsorize this "emulators" like mupen64 and forks because they sucks...
You are very (repeated three times) lucky if they run super mario...

Andrea Mupen64Plus is 1 top 3 n64 emulators and the only n64 emulator that is in Active Development rite now
I recommend try it before making a statement
and you say ("Don't sponsorize this "emulators" like mupen64 and forks because they sucks...
You are very (repeated three times) lucky if they run super mario... ")
i like to point out there are some games that mupen64plus runs better than pj64
like Kirby64

if pj64 runs linux it can run on ps3 so you can play it on your big screen tv!
and it adds another "12.81 million (as of March 31, 2008)[2][3] (details)"
people that can use your emulator
vote 1 linux support

God, everyone who has Linux always whines constantly, everywhere, that they want a Linux version of something. It gets soooooooooooooo old. We get it - you have a OS which isn't designed by Bill or Steve. Good for you - you're awesome. Go play with Mupen. Pj64 needs to make strides in the PC realm before they waste too much time catoring to 1% of the computer users. Its so selfish of you guys - LInux users are the most selfish people I have ever seen.

I find it all too ironic that people will gladly whine when something slightly Linux related happens, even though this was about the recent Windows release of Mupen64Plus, and then others complain about Linux users whining...
No respect for Mupen64Plus, its developers, Project64, or its developers shows just how good a place you are to complain. At least read the damn article, it's not that long even.
The download, by the way, is on the right side of the page on the M64P homepage posted above. It's a featured download on the Google Code page. Sorry for not being there to make a new port but I'm getting really busy lately :\

Okay, sure, some Linux users brag way too much. But I'm a Linux user, and I don't complain if something isn't available for Linux. I just get on with life.
I also think that you need to look up some statistics. 1%? No. In fact, there are just as many, in fact possibly more (according to some surveys) Linux users as Mac users. That's still a low percentage, of course. Only maybe 3-4%. But its a lot more than 1%.
To any fellow Linux users:
Sure, it would be great if PJ64 was ported to Linux. But Mupen works just as well. So there's no need to complain.

Project64 can't be ported to linux, well the core technically can, but the majority of what makes Project64 better than mupen on Windows is Jabo's video plugin. Sadly the plugin is written for Direct3D, which does not exist on Linux and never will without a wrapper. Much of the Project64 core, which was open sourced at 1.4 is actually already in mupen and 1964. So in a way, we are the linux port. :) The major core items which aren't are some of Zilmar's EPIC opcode optimizations made in the 1.6 release cycle.
So please, everyone who wants N64 emulation on linux, don't bug the Project64 team. Instead lend us a hand at #mupen64plus on freenode. There's tons to do, even things which don't require coding.
As far as user complaints, I've seen plenty of people wanting a Windows port of Mupen64plus on our forum and irc channel. So the only conclusion I can reach is that both Windows and Linux users like to complain. ;)
