View Full Version : Yoshi's Story graphic issues

I have been trying to figure out whether it is the ROM or the emulator that is causing these problems and it seems to be the emulator. However, after trying several different kinds I ended up with slightly different issues so I am unsure. When I play yoshi's story the graphics are all perfectly okay until I go to choose a yoshi, in which case, I notice the outline of the little characters and the cursor. Then when you are in the actual level, almost half the screen flickers constantly with another part of the level.
I realize this doesn't prevent gameplay, but after awhile it sure can cause quite the headache and make gameplay more difficult. I would really love to be able to play this game without any issues, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Whether its the rom or the emulator, or if there's something I can do on the Project 64 emulator to fix it, that would be amazing.

It works for the screen flickering, however, it makes the graphics in levels missing. I tried doing Blarrgs boiler (I think that's what it was called) and I couldn't see much of the bones at all! Is there something I can do to fix these issues? Or am I going to have to deal with missing graphics vs constant screen flickering?

If you get flickering see if for you the Direct3D Clear Mode setting helps. Options/Configure Graphics Plugin... has other advanced settings but should not be hidden before summon.

I've had this same problem too, in the past. Try using this setup:
Options>Settings:
Graphics Plugin: Jabo's Direct 3D8 1.6
Options>Configure Graphics Plugin:
My resolutions were set to 1024x768 under both windowed and full screen at 32 Bits and 60 Hz, but i'm not sure that that matters.
Full Screen Sync: Double Buffer Vsync
Anisotropic filtering: 2x.
HERE'S THE IMPORTANT BIT:
Change to the Rom Settings tab in the configure graphics plugin screen WHILST emulating yoshi's story.
Set Emulated width to 319 and emulated height to 239. Direct 3D clear mode was default too.
BTW I registered on the forum just to help you, so I hope that fixes your problem:D

Even that I'm not the OP, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for sharing this info. It was driving me insane because I couldn't figure out how to fix it!
Again, many many thanks for your help!

LOL well there are worse.
That later post was a lot more detail than I counted on though...319x239 res? Not sure what's up with that.

It does seem a bit odd, but changing it to those values absolutely fixes the problem!
BTW, I bumped the thread because I figured if he went through the trouble of joining this forum just to answer a question, he deserves to be thanked for it, regardless of how old the post actually was.

I agree. I didn't mean that as a knock on you.
My Paint.NET binges can have adverse effects, I suppose.

If the 319x239 forced res fixes something there was probably a slightly off scale of a large texture, but in my experience it could totally have been something else haha, even if it seems totally weird or unrelated.
Yep nice find.

you know what helped me with my yoshi game, all i did was go to Graphics config. then i clicked on the Rom settings tab. on emulator width i put 320 and on height i put 240. it fixed the flickering box it had everytime yoshi moved. :o

On the other hand, it doesn't surprise me that a fa-I mean drag queen, would be using PJ64.

..........
Please tell me somebody forced 320x240, before testing 319x239.
As for me I didn't test it period, but the first thing I would have done was use native regular res anyway before some custom res like that even if it was reported to fix.

I don't recall this new, public forum existing then, but it seems possible.
Apparently Mr. zilmar transferred the user base to this forum on 2008.09.22.
Brandon (=P that's Mdkcheatz btw) is not going to STFU and GTFO, just going to do this to the forum all day:

Yeah, couple years, one half of a year? What's the difference? They're both 2^[+/-]1.
Which wacky GIF? One of the thousands I've spammed this forum (and its predecessor) with, or Mdkcheatz's avatar?

Well, the GIF89a specifications added support for interleaved data to constitute a multi-frame picture image. Before then, it was just the GIF87 specifications, which did not support animation.

That thar be a GIF87- spec image.
I wrote all that crap by hand using algebraic substitution during all my classes when the teachers were talking about some sort of non-math-related stuff I wasn't paying attention to.
Or did I use matrices for the definition to reach those formulas...I forget.

That is an incorrect sentence.

30th November 2010, 03:32 AM
That is an incorrect sentence.
So is, "That is an incorrect sentence."
"That" is a pronoun, which, along with a term such as "it", can't be used as a subject term in a complete sentence.
Without a subject and a verb, there is no complete sentence in that quote.
I guess an incomplete sentence is either a nonexistent sentence or an incorrect one. :S

Thanks a ton for helping with the flickering problem... the emulator still is buggy, but, that's how it goes. What I really wanted to say is "Do you live in Great Britain"? ...Using words like "whilst" instead of "while". Cuz, more and more online I see these pretentious know-it-alls trying to sound smart by sounding British... and it's annoying. So, if you are British, my apologies, otherwise, KNOCK IT OFF! And it's not "twat"... it's "pussy". This is America people!

About the issues with Yoshi's Story, today the game works pretty great in the Glide64 graphics plugin as well. Otherwise you can get by obviously with Jabo's D3D6.

Actually this is the internet. Americans sometimes use the internet, it is true, but that does not mean that America IS the internet. What you would call "foreigners"/"communists"/"terrorists" sometimes also use the internet.
Btw also, glad to hear that your problem was (partially) solved :)

old post, but lmao
It took a lot of afterthought to crack up at this XD.
I'm starting to prefer the idea of The Fat Man saying, "All in a day's work," after eating up an entire bathtub full of ice cream. Still, I'm sure he'd just tell me to go to bed either way. He's too fat to say anything else. It's probably the first thing on his mind when he'd come home from work.
