Hey,
I downloaded a 1.1 and a 1.2 rom for zelda Ocarina Of Time and played it on p64, it worked as smoothly as anyone could have ever hoped.
but then I loaded a hi-res texture ( Dipiji's cell shaded http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=49340&highlight=zelda ) and it wouldn't work correctly.
I have tried the newest version of rice ( and aristotle and mudlords version of rice as well )
and nothing works, they all work with the normal rom without a texture pack.
It loads the texture packs for a little while and it looks like its about to work, but when It should be loading it crashes, the video plugin i've been recommended to use was " Rices Video Plugin 6.1.1 beta 10 stable "
but even that doesn't work :(
heres a screeny of the error it normally gives me after crashing

any help is greatly appreciated :)

Where were you in the game exactly?
The crash is internal to the recent betas of Project64.
It can happen sometimes when you do things; if you tell me what you did I can find it and look for a config.

it happens when I try to load Dipijis Cell-shaded texture pack, just after its loaded and should be loading, it crashes.
when Im just playing a normal rom it works perfectly.

You get the crash message immediately after starting the game?
Then is that only when you set the plug-in to load hi-res textures if available, or do you see a crash initializing with this plug-in and its default settings?
Make sure for testing the cause of this crash you have tried to disable the option to load replacement textures. Options/Configure Graphics Plugin.../Texture Enhancement/Load hi-res textures if available

yeah, as I said it works fine if I dont have the "load hi-res textures if avaliable " option checked.
However when I DO want to use the high-res textures it won't work and it simply crashes before it shows any of the game, does the screenshot help at all?
BTW i'm using Windows Vista Home Premium sp2 is that helps at all.

One thing we can try in that case is to downgrade to the beta 46.
In the page for downloading beta files click View All Files, search in terms of the Project64 binary and download 1.7.0.46. Use this in place with RiceVideo 6.1.1.10 to see if it still crashes.

I can't download 1.7....
hmm, try an older version of rice?
It isn't just rice though, glide64 doesn't work either, I'm reinstalling now to see if that works.

Due to the process through which copies of beta 1.7 have been leaked and cracked there is significant damage done to the actual product (the emulator itself). A few of them damage the process less than others, but according to mudlord, all who have cracked could have done better. :D
An earlier version of Rice may do. Since my time is seriously up tonight I'll leave to you.

thanks for your help, I was trying to use the new version to see if it would work on that but it wouldn't, now I'm trying it again on 1.6 and still not working, only difference is Im not getting that error message.
I just tried 1964 and the exact same thing happens, so its either a rom problem or incompatibility with vista ( which I highly doubht seeing that the rom runs normally without the texure pack )

ya Vista here too
I have just finished downloading Djipi's cell-shade retexture and tried loading it. I get the same thing except, after minutes of waiting, the message appears and instantly closes before a general Vista crash message.
It looks like an issue with RAM management. The retextures I have gone by were way smaller than the major ones like the Zelda projects. Something is displacing new data that will not fit elsewhere under a stubborn method.
See I'm glad to have Vista so that I can see the suffering of others. :) If I ever get back to leisure I'll settle with Windows 2000.

I'm having the exact same problem with v1.6 and windows xp. Seems to only happen when i try loading Oot and majoras mask with textures. Is it not supposed to work on xp?

Without some details a crash you might be getting can have completely different causes...maybe trying to load the re-texture with 1964 affects this?

How very strange...it loads everything up perfectly in 1964 using the new glide64 Napalm. When i try to do it in project 64 v 1.6 (downloaded from this site), it gets to the last texture, says that it's loading the emulation, and when it hits 100%, i get a "project 64 has encountered an error and needs to close." This happens whether i use glide or just Rice's plugin. Please let me know if there's any more information i could give that might help...

When you get the encountered an error message, look for an option to expand it to get more information.
If you're using an older build of Vista you might not get that option, but it should look like this.

If that info is there copy the text.

Well, Im using XP, but i did manage to get this...
AppName: project64.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: nrage_dinput8_v2_2.1.dll
ModVer: 2.1.0.0 Offset: 00014a37
So, being the astute non-annoying problem presenter I am, I went to an earlier version of nrage input and it works fine. Seems really strange to me that an input plugin would cause all the trouble...

Heh sorry I forgot you said you've been using XP; I've had to deal with this error--and other people getting different versions of it based on how they have Vista installed--a few times, compared to stability back on Windows XP.
I could easily have just given a screen of how to check for details on WinXP.
The later versions of the overhauled N-Rage plug-in are betas, so being strange as this is I'll make sure some of their team gets notice of that crash. Thanks for co-op
