Check out my new hack, it is not complete yet. I should probably also note that some hires-textures (mostly Mario ones) may not work, sorry :o

I've never made a ROM patch before, but I'm guessing you probably used Toad's Tool 64 (if not some other RHDN utility) for doing the high-level interface ROM hacking (besides of course the famed SM64 ROM extender utility needed to decompress the media so that most tools made to hack the game will work)?

I used Toad's Tool 64 for the hacking and a .ppf file creator for the patch.

Yeah I barely remember reading about PPF before XD. I remember IPS, but for all I know that could have been for a different platform or something. :o

I've seen screens of Toad's Tool but never actually had it installed. How easy was it to use for these purposes, and what sorts of familiarity or skill did you find needed to utilize that for the hacking here?

It is fairly easy to use and does not really really require any experience other that using a computer.

That sounds very high-level then XD. Honestly I'm not picturing how it can be that easy to meddle with the geometry with most ROM-hacking utils...not saying it's impossible, of course. That's a lot of work put into bending over for people who don't want to get down and dirty with the stuff. Sounds like an amazing tool then.

Have you ever used like a hex or ASCII editor to hack basic data within a game (or familiar with objects in reference)?

Nopehttp://www.

Well that's boring XD. Only to an extent though--it varies with the type of work as well. Eh either way obviously you've made it clear that it's not complete (haven't seen an opened discussion about this on some other boards yet for some reason), so I guess you'll be blogging somewhere as you go along.

ExtremeDude2 7th June 2011 12:55 PM

So Iconoclast have you played my hack yet?

HatCat 7th June 2011 11:34 PM

I'm still trying to, thinking towards, getting off my ass and learning how to patch it. I have to download that ROM extender thing again don't I T_T. Downloading the patch utility and using that shouldn't be tough; I just hope I don't have to install even more software.

Basically I'm conflicted with several thoughts atm and was too lazy. :D
