Goto Options/Settings. Uncheck Hide Advanced Settings. Then in the ROM Browser, Right-Click the game and select Edit Game Settings. Change Counter Factor to 3, then select Recompiler tab, and change Recompiler to Interpreter.

Well, it loads now, but when I push the A button to play the game, the screen gets dark, and nothing happens

That sounds like a permanent loop in the RSP. I know it happened with this game based on some saved states someone sent me for Animal Forest.

What version of Project64 are you using and what RSP plugin and version of said RSP plugin?
