I have faced this problem in Projec64 as well....
I have faced this problem in Projec64 as well. Tryed to play this part in Mupen64plus, but it was unsucessfull.
I found out that you don't need to go through this part of the game if you're in...

Go to "Options", then "Graphic Plugin...
Go to "Options", then "Graphic Plugin Configuration", click on "Rom Settings", in the "Direct3D Clear Mode", select "Only per frame".
If you set this configuration in Project64 1.6 it'll stay...
