Usually they are actually playing it, but they use special versions of emulators that allow them "redo" things using save states ... like say you are playing you can stop recording and go back to a previous save to do something over again faster
it makes fantastic videos, but usually its a lot of trial and error, I know someone told me the "redo" count on videos can be in the thousands for these speed runs! |
