Default N64 cd audio

On the nintendo website, it says the n64 had cd quality sound. I remember reading somewhere that n64 did not have cd quality audio and was a disadvantage over the ps. There are a number of low quality sound games. Conker being one. There were also high quality games. Such as banjo and zelda. Were the high quality ones cd? Was perfect dark cd?

Thanks,

Well, having recently gotten a Ps1 at an amazing deal at a garage sale ($3, new condition ) I would say that OoT and MM are at the same level as the Ps1, or at least practically unnoticeably under it.

well, like new, practically unused XD missing only the memory card.

But that's not important. I would say that, yes, the higher end audio from the N64 is very comparable to the regular audio from the Ps1.

Well maybe they confused to frequency. Mario, Zelda are 32 KHz, Castlevania and others 44.1 KHz like CD audio. Donkey Kong used 22.05 KHz? Don't know much about audio specs here so not sure if others were used by different games.

if we say cd quality is 44 khz 16 bit stereo. uncompressed is like 1000 kbps. mp3 is 320kbps and wma is 128kbps to the same quality, then what would be the quality of the games? conker is muffled so i think it has low bit rate not too sure.

It depends on the frequency of the game, but it's basically raw audio. It's sort of MIDI-based since it references instrumental sound codes for fx that comprise the musics.
