That whole being obsessed with manga and idols and stuff like that is related to otaku; actually, it's put in there below the post that I quoted.

It is not applied to a socially awkward intelligent person who appears fairly "normal," and merely has an interest in certain typically 'geekish' pursuits (video games, comic books, computers, etc.).

Wikipedia has contradicted itself.

Otaku (おたく / オタク?) is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga, or video games.

That's the Japanese version. If you take hints from 4Kids, the English version is less evil, more pie.

I realize you're dead, old potato man, but I've gotta spam where I've gotta spam.

Don't know how these threads escaped my vision. Must have been disconnected before I had a chance to reply to these couple of threads in the back of the forum.

^ But seriously, how is language supposed to affect definition?
Otaku should have the same definitive etymology regardless of potential usage in Japanese or English-deforming context.

The fact is that those imbeciles contradicted themselves.

You can't say that an interest in video games doesn't make you an otaku while otaku-ism is especially associated with video games.
