OOT Song Problems

So, I've been playing Ocarina of Time lately and just got to being Adult Link. After becoming Adult Link I went to Lon Lon Ranch to get Epona. I paid the rupees and went into the pen. I pull out the ocarina, play Epona's Song and nothing happens. So I just figured I would get Epona later. Then I went to get the hook shot. In Dampe's grave after completing the race, I was in the room with the blocks that you must play the Somg of Time to get rid of or move. I played the song, nothing happened. It seems to be a strange glitch to do with songs that don't get the pop up. Even the Sun's Song won't paralyze the Ghouls.
