Default Controller problems.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have this controller.

I've tried all the plugins, and I've tried NRage's v2 2.3c, and none of them work. The drivers are installed, the controller doesn't seem to be defective.. Help?

Except maybe a better controller like a keyboard.

Yeah, sure, I'll try getting SDA to approve of keyboard use for speedrunning.

So what would you recommend? Is there a specific controller that people use for Project64?

I don't think there is any specific controller people flock to by default. Personally I use my Xbox 360 (wired version) for most emulators.

I use it for:

Dolphin (wii/gc emulator)
VBA (gba/gb/gc emulator)
PCSX2 (ps2 emulator)
PJ64 (this)

A real one (one from Microsoft) runs about $25-$30 which is kind of pricey, but it works fine.

I guess it is a matter of preference, but I hate using keyboard/mouse(s) with emulators.

i think this is actually an issue in windows 8

try installing the directX june 2010 redist, to ensure you have the dinput8 file.

I'm trying to find the most "historically accurate" N64 controller for a PC, and not having much luck in the process.

Do you know of any, or know of anyone that does?

Not to go off-topic, but I am curious why some competition would ban a keyboard lmao?! Without banning a lot of other controllers?

FLAT BUTTON KEYZ !! AGAINST DA RULEZ

It is largely a matter of preference yeah, but I guess it also factors in experience. Even a crap controller could be comfortable to someone overtime with enough experience.

Either way I'm not sure how it happened, but I got better at Super Smash Bros. on the keyboard than I was on a real N64 controller. Being a programmer usually kind of helps fancy the keyboard for some other reasons (can't imagine using the N64 controller to go into consoles and do stuff...).

And yeah, loads of people use a Xbox controller or a Xbox 360 controller.
In which case the "XInput" checkbox N-Rage becomes an additional API option to choose from to test any possible issues with DirectInput.
