I'm running Windows XP and I used to use Project 64 a lot... I took a break for about a month or two and when I go to open it now, it says
"The default or selected audio plugin is missing or invalid Check that you have at least one compatible plugin file in your plugin folder" and then the settings pops up with the audio/video/etc. plugins. I have tried selecting different ones but it doesn't change anything. I've uninstalled then reinstalled P64 and still get the error... I made sure all plugin dlls were in the correct folder. Any sort of help or suggestions on this would be appreciated. |

"I have tried selecting different ones but it doesn't change anything."
Just to verify what that means, if you choose Options/Settings... to go to the "Plugins" tab, are the fields for "Video", "Audio" and "Input" all filled in? |

It's possible you didn't get any additional errors saying devices like Direct3D or DirectSound failed to initialize through the default plug-ins.
What if you change graphics to Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2 and sound to No Sound? |

When I choose No Sound the error doesn't show up and I can load ROMs, (but of course) no sound.
I tried it with both 1.5.2 and 1.6 |

Try using Azimer's Audio HLE for the sound plug-in.
It isn't pre-installed with Project64, so if you don't have it, get it from here. http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=27614 The DLL module from the ZIP archive goes in $Project64\Plugin, then the new plug-in should be selectable in Project64. |

Ok, when I use Azimer's Audio HLE a window comes up saying Project 64 needs to close, tried to open again, same thing, I had to send it to the recycle bin to open P64 again. So for some reason that won't work either ^^;

Wow I wonder if it's like your sound drivers and stuff.
Try "Basic Audio Plugin" for Project64's sound plug-in. If that isn't already installed get it from here. |

Yaaay
Also curious if this would have worked. http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=12047 They both give bad sound quality though, but with Mr. zilmar's basic audio plug-in go to configure it through Options menu in Project64, set the pre-buffering control slider to balance between crackling sound and lagging sound. |
