Default Noob needs help with cheats for Mario 64

Hello everyone.

I'm trying to play Super Mario 64 running with 60fps and a widescreen fix, so I don't see stuff pop in or glitch out at the sides of the screen.

Now, I've already googled for the 60 fps patch/cheat and landed there:

forum.pj64-emu.com/showpost.php?p=63027&postcount=5

However, I didn't really get it to work.
In fact, non of the cheats that I selected did seem to have any effect on the game.
I tried to google a tutorial on how exactly to use cheats, but they always seemed to let out important overviews.
(I'm actually not even sure if there is only one cheat system in this emulator, or if there are different codes for different systems.)

I'm the kinda guy that wants noob-proofed step-by-step tutorials, where there is a 0% chance that the user does anything wrong as long as he follows it exactly.

So to summarize my cry for help:

- I would love to know working cheats for 60fps and Widescreen glitch fixes.

- I would love some good advice how to make them work
(Is it normal that I can only open the cheat menu after the game already launched and is running?)

- Do you recommend a certain version of Project 64?

cheers

Go to the N64 Widescreen Codes/Patches thread to find a SM64 widescreen IPS patch for a .z64 ROM. Also do not utilise 60FPS.

So how do I use the widescreen patch?

That thread has some codes but not a single instruction on how to actually patch a rom file.

Do I do that over the cheat menu or do I modify the rom?

Do I have to activate the cheats every single time after loading a game,
or is there a way so they stay active every time the game runs?

Get the IPS patcher utility to patch your ROM here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/240/
You need to copy paste the code provided (without the brackets), to download.
Instruction for use are here: https://www.romhacking.net/faq/?page=faq#question3

For cheat codes to be remembered:
In Project64, Options > Settings, uncheck hide advanced settings. Under Advanced that appears, check remember selected cheats.

Widescreen render fix (culling) 16:9
8127D55E 4740
Use with GLideN64

16:9 Full screen resolution
854x480 custom windowed resolution
Try to adjust game to fit aspect ratio.

$profit$

The 60fps code is POC, but has been abandoned. ASM that controls the global timing will be needed for accurate 60fps hacks.
