7z files???? they dont work!

ive been to quite a few rom sites that five me 7z files and they dont work on project 64! but most of the rom sites supply 7z..... help????

.7z is a compressed file, just like .zip, .rar, ect.

To un-compress the file in it (to get the .z64, .v64, or .rom), download 7-Zip.

I use WinRAR to extract from .7z files. It's also good for several other compression file formats.

WinRAR is still way faster and better at memory management, but I still use 7ZFM because it supports way more formats that I see from time-to-time. It also compresses ZIP archives into very slightly smaller files if you want to get into byte details, in general, though sometimes they're about the same. A little over half the time, files resulting from 7Z compression are, by this same margin, slightly smaller than files from RAR.

Not to mention 7-zip (7ZFM) is freeware and open source (some care about that). While WinRAR is trialware and I'm not sure what happens after the trial.

it nags you with a your trial has expired prompt every start.

but you dont have to open the program to extract files. i dont anyways i just rick click the file and say extract to "folder name" and then move the files where i need them

That works if you have WinXP or some other integration. WinXP came with an internal handler for ZIP.

RAR/ZIP/ACE have been studied for password-cracking. This research has not been published for 7Z.

not that I ever care to password my files
As freeware I'm sure that's some social factor behind that.
