Hello everyone,
if you've read any of my previous threads you'll probably have realised I'm in search of my holy grail... Mario Kart 64 four player 1080P perfection. I think it was January last year when I downloaded the at that time current version of Project64, although I have now downloaded the latest version. Anyway, with help from many of you last year I managed to get pretty close to perfection and in fact I'd say the only difference was that it's just a fraction slower than the US console version. Due to a loft conversion at home, I emptied the contents of our loft into our living room in May last year and it's only now that all the work's complete and I have my living room back (and Mario Kart more importantly!). So, I'm now in a position to start again from where I left off. So, last year many of you contributed with suggestions and I really appreciate all the help you gave. Due to having a family and so much going on at home my Mario Kart obsession has to take last place in a seemingly endless list of priorities. I didn't even get a chance to try out everything that was suggested which I regret. One member of the forum who was particularly helpful, theboy181, mentioned some code for 60FPS Mario Kart 64. Now, I can't pretend for a second that I know what difference it would make, or what on earth the code meant, or where on earth I was meant to add the code, but can anyone please spoon-feed me as it sounds really good!! I have sent theboy181 a private message but I don't know if he's still active on the forum. Here is the code he said to try;- Mario Kart 64 (U) 60fps hack: 81001890 2419 81001892 0001 81001894 2419 81001896 0001 80000FE3 0000 800014CF 0001 81001C90 240A 81001C92 0001 81001C94 240A 81001C96 0001 81001A38 2409 81001A3A 0001 81001A3C 2409 81001A3E 0001 80122CBB 001C Also, on another thread I started about the minimum required spec for a PC build, retroben has mentioned this slightly different code as below. I'll send retroben a private message to see if he doesn't mind posting on this thread. Mario Kart 64 (U) Sixty Frames Hack 81001890 2419 81001892 0001 81001894 2419 81001896 0001 80000FE3 0000 800014CF 0001 81001C90 240A 81001C92 0001 81001C94 240A 81001C96 0001 81001A38 2409 81001A3A 0001 81001A3C 2409 81001A3E 0001 80122CBB 001C 810AC5D4 2401 810AC5D6 0006 Anyway, thanks as always for all your help and lots more would be appreciated as always!! Thanks Justin Last edited by justin8571; 3rd January 2018 at 11:34 AM. |

I think the code with the extra part increases time for the results screen but I am unsure.
Its still missing the Jumbo-tron 60fps part though upon my testing. I didn't make that Jumbo-tron part of the code though. |

Hi retroben,
thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated. I think you mentioned in the post I'd copied that code from that it was to do with a Mario Kart 8 style turbo boost upon landing but I might have got confused with something else. Sorry but I've got no idea what Jumbo-tron is if you don't mind explaining please? Also, purely by accident yesterday I ended up looking inside the Project64 folder and found a number of files one being labelled Project64.cfg (I think). I'd often read about config files and assumed they were something in the Project64 settings menu that were hidden. I'm assuming it's within the Project64 folder that I have to add the code then and that it's nothing to do with the setting menu. As you can tell I didn't grow up with computers! So, could you give me an idiot-proof guide on what to do with the code please? I cannot stress IDIOT-PROOF enough, please treat me like a great-grandparent or similar. I'm not short on enthusiasm, just brains. Thank you so much for your help Justin |

Well,if you say so,I will try my best.
First, open PJ64 then look on the top of the window and click on options and click Settings... then on the left pane click Options and then on the right you will see some check-boxes and other stuff. Click the check-marked square next to "Hide advanced settings" to gain access to those hidden settings and click Apply. Now,expand the Options on the left pane by clicking the + sign next to it then click the word Advanced and click the square box for "remember selected cheats" to make cheats less complicated and click Apply to save that setting. Next, make sure to use your mouse to highlight the cheat by holding left click over it from the top and reach the bottom carefully and ONLY copy the part of the cheat with numbers including letters A B C D E F within it too (those are hexadecimal numbers also known as hex) and right click the highlighted text then left click Copy to copy it. Copy this next thing for example, this is that Sixty Frames cheat... 81001890 2419 81001892 0001 81001894 2419 81001896 0001 80000FE3 0000 800014CF 0001 81001C90 240A 81001C92 0001 81001C94 240A 81001C96 0001 81001A38 2409 81001A3A 0001 81001A3C 2409 81001A3E 0001 80122CBB 001C 810AC5D4 2401 810AC5D6 0006 Don't copy this sentence or the empty space in between. Now when you have that copied, start the game and click System and click Cheats... to open the cheat list, there you should see an arrow on the right side of the cheat window that you click which opens the side-panel where you can input new cheats. Due to a design oddity, you need to click on New Cheat first before you put in any cheat or it may overwrite an already existing cheat. Then click into the small text box on the top and type in a name for the cheat and click into the vertically long text box (vertical means up and down) in the middle and proceed to add the cheat code by right clicking that vertically long text box in the middle and click Paste and it should allow you to add it afterward by clicking Add New Cheat then from there find the name you gave it within the list of cheats and click in the square box to check-mark it so that it becomes enabled. Note: Problems with many cheats require you to reset the game in order for them to work properly due to a thing called ASM modding when using the high performance Recompiler which is required for emulating the game at reasonable speeds on less powerful computers instead of chugging with slowdown. Hope you can understand this,I tried pretty hard. ![]() Last edited by retroben; 4th January 2018 at 09:53 PM. |

Hello retroben,
I can’t thank you enough for your guide, that was exactly what I needed. I honestly would never have been able to work that out on my own. I tried it out late last night but couldn’t reply as I was already late getting to bed. It’s definitely worked as I’m getting the double speed menu. I wasn’t sure before-hand if I’d notice anything as I’d been on YouTube to watch 30FPS vs 60 videos and I couldn’t tell the difference. I loaded up a four player game, as that’s what we play, and just used a single player. It instantly felt smoother but I wanted to prove to myself that I wasn’t just imagining an improvement, so I went back between the two settings a number of times, and I could tell by the menu speed each time whether the cheat was active or not. It’s smoother for sure and when I reverted back to 30FPS I could notice juddering in the scenery when panning left/right which isn’t apparent at 60. I’m not sure if I imagined it but the kart felt faster than normal when using a star but maybe that was an illusion created by the smoothness of the motion. Either way it’s great. When I get some time I’m going to try a single player game where I’d imagine it’ll showcase the improvement really well. I’d be interested in any settings you’d recommend just to make sure I’ve optimised everything as best as possible please. I’m not at home right now but from previous help I know I’ve got counter factor set to one as that helped to increase the game speed, and for some very odd reason that I’ll never understand I was told to select Fixed Audio Timing as without it the pickups allocation is weird, and lightnings are given out far too often. Selecting FAT definitely worked and now the pickups are given out as you’d expect depending on your position in the race. I can’t remember any other settings right now or whether I’m using interpreter or recompiler. Also, due to my appreciation of all the help I’ve received I’ve now become a donator via Patreon. However, when I load the game up it asks if I have a number to enter if I’m a supporter. I’ve only received a couple of emails from Patreon and haven’t noticed a specific number to add. The best I could see was an invoice number but that didn’t work, so when I load the game up I have to wait a while until that box clears itself before I can do anything. I’ve been onto Patreon’s website in my account but still can’t find a particular membership number or whatever to add to Project64. I’ve got four friends coming over Tuesday and they’re all massively excited, and we’re all in our 40s! We play on a 120” projector screen at 1080p, only ever Koopa Troopa Beach as it’s the perfect track, and through more help I’ve received from this forum we’ll be playing for the first time with wireless XBox One controllers. Our original controllers are so worn that using new XBox controllers is lovely, my mates are going to be blown away, and all now at 60FPS thanks to you. Again, I can’t thank you enough for your help, I really appreciate the time you took to write out that comprehensive guide. Thank you retroben Justin |

Hey Justin,
I also would LOVE to be able to play Mario Kart 64 multiplayer again, but I'm a little confused how you got this far. I think I once read another thread from you last year, however, I think the conversation stopped in there. Perhaps you're able to give a brief sum-up on what I should do to be able to play Mario Kart 64 four player as well? I'm also not super tech savvy, but I do consider myself pretty good at some stuff (maybe sort of like you). Would be hugely appreciated. Thanks! |
