WCW Backstage Assault crashes before the main menu

The game "WCW Backstage Assault" (not World Tour or Mayhem) seems to crash before the main menu in PJ64 2.3.2. It did work on 1.6 though.
I tried changing the game settings but still not get past the title screen.
Any way to fix this?
