Your testing feedback to use with Jabo's DirectInput would also be appreciated, as the discussions here are more targeted at the development past issues like this if they should not be happening with the default plugins.
Updating my N-Rage plugin to the 2.2 beta did the trick, my dead zone works exactly as expected now, thanks for all of the help!

I would give my feedback for Jabo's plugin, if you can point me in the right direction for doing so.

Thanks to everyone for their help!

If you can try the XBCD drivers out it would be much appreciated, the default ones are probably broken and N-Rage is using XInput? but that's a guess. If you have time to play around with it that would be helpful to know. In the mean time I need get ahold of one of these for 1.7 development for a day somehow...

I think N-rage 2.2 has native xinput.

Any idea about where to the the most recent version of the XBCD drivers? I don't know which ones are discontinued now.

(Hopefully this isn't a repost, my last post got lost in the mail apparently)

I installed XBCD 0.2.7 and it seemed to install fine. Everything still works perfectly with N-Rage's plugin, but Jabo's DirectInput7 1.6 still behaves how it did before.

It seems to me like the config for the controller is EXTREMELY sesitive to any left stick movement, thus every key I try to map shows up as Joy Up or Joy Down.

On what could possibly be a related note, the XBCD setup utility won't find my controller. Did I install the driver wrong?

Hopefully I'm making myself clear.

I think so, the problem you are having basically is that the left analog stick uses the X/Y axis, when you click the button edit/config in the configuration dialog it automatically gets set to X or Y axis, which is what you mean by "extremely sensitive" you aren't even touching that analog stick and it think it's being pushed? and there is obviously no way to work around that... just confirm i understand the details... a screenshot would be nice as well

to move foward from this I need to find out if this is a generic problem or not with my support for xbox 360 controllers, need to hear from people using them in 1.6 and 1.7, otherwise we are shooting in the dark a bit.

^ Very nice and informative resource post by squall...

Yeah starting with the 2.2 beta overhaul of N-Rage, there is a check box (default:OFF) option to use XInput. Otherwise it still uses DirectInput.

an even better find by squall himself

Actually I remember seeing that thread before, but dang it's been months since I saw it when I was active there.

Though it looks like at the moment for trial number one I guess that was a sufficient deal of info.
