Project 64 keeps crashing

Everytime I open it it works for about 5 seconds and then fails. I have vista sp2 is project 64 compatible with vista?

I would reinstall Project64:

Uninstalling or Reinstalling Project64 (taken from Project64.chm)

As mentioned during installation, Project64 does not have an install program. It thus logically also doesn't have an uninstall program (there is no entry in Windows Add/Remove programs). The authors preferred a simple 'hands on' approach and we hope you will find it satisfying to be in control of your own system.

The following instructions will completely remove all traces of Project64 from your system, in case you ever wish to do this (although they shouldn't do any harm if not removed).

You may wish to read backing up before you begin.

Project64 does not scatter files around your system. The only files it creates are those in its own folder, and the folders you define - there are no files added to your system folders or ROM folders, for example.

You will find the following files the \Uninstall folder of your Project64 folder.

remove Project64 application settings.reg
remove Project64 plugins settings.reg
remove all Project64 settings.reg
The last files is the one you want to run to get rid of all the registry settings of Project64. Note than any entries made by 3rd party plugins will not be removed by these files - please consult relevant plugin documentation.

Note that these files do NOT delete your Project64 folder on your hard drive, ONLY the Project64 registry entries. You can delete your Project64 folder with your delete key.

The .reg files have been tested and should pose no risk to your system but backing up your Windows registry is general good practice. I and the Project64 team are not responsible for any harm that results from your use or incorrect use of these files.



Instructions to completely uninstall Project64:

Exit Project64
Backup anything you want saved
Double click "remove all Project64 settings.reg"
You will be asked "Are you sure you want to add the information in ... to the registry?"
You must answer "Yes"
You will be told "Information in ... has been successfully entered into the registry."
Remove any 3rd party plugins you installed as per their instructions
Remove any shortcuts you have to Project64 (Start menu etc.)
Delete your root Project64 folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\pj64) and you're done.
You may need to restart your system for the file associations to clear (if you were using Shell Integration)

A re-installation of Project64 is just the same as an uninstallation, except that you carry out a standard install afterwards.

I didnt have an uninstall "folder". I uninstalled it by using the uninstall icon in the start menu. When uninstalled and reinstalled the same thing happens. Did I not install it right in the first place?

What he means is that your computer might have a system operating that is meant to fend off viruses and what not. These operations would prohibit project 64 execution.

He's suggesting to disable this feature. Assuming this is the cause, you really don't need it anyway. Honestly, I don't even use antivirus software because I don't need it. lol

Now, if you want to assume this will help, let me guide you because other people here don't understand that not everyone is computer savvy.

Now right click and run the command option (as administrator).... It shows as ''cmd'' meaning command. This is what you will use to communicate with Windows so that it'll do what you need done.

Then.

Type in the following:

bcdedit /set nx alwaysoff
bcdedit /set {current} nx alwaysoff

That should work if this really is the issue.

no, im saying that he may be running a core 2 or older intel cpu with a TLB bug that results in checksum issues that cause DEP to terminate the emulator.

he might have also set his computer to enable DEP on all applications somehow....

well rather than sending a toddler into a street full of cars by himself, maybe you should hold his hand and make sure he gets to the otherside safely. I know this may sound silly by nature, but I'm completely dead serious. He could end up screwing his computer because you just left him to hang. Come on Danial you know better :P

I think I know how to fix your problem. If you are using Project64 v1.6, don't bother with the install, uninstall, reinstall, deinstall, redeinstall, reundeinstall, yada yada....

If you want to fix this issue, Jabo (who used to be part of the team) released a patch containing most of the PJ64 fixes found in v1.7 that weren't previously found in v1.6.... If you google ''Jabo Project 64 patch'' you find it as the first or second link.

I don't know how Witten failed to see this, but you are clearly seeking support for version 1.6 which if I remember correctly is not stable in Windows Vista.

This patch released by Jabo should solve the issue.
