Gameshark doesn't work

this is really weird the gameshark button doesn't work it won't let me put in any cheats whatsoever i tried pressing f9 but it still doesn't work help plz i'm using the 1.6 version Graphics is jabo 1.5.2 everything else is 1.6. i have a 1.7 version but i don't bother using it cuz it broke.

There is a section for v 1.6 if you look at the main part of the forum.

Cheats should work just fine if you are using 1.6. If you really are using 1.7 then that's another story. If you're lucky, you might be able to turn them on without crashing the game.

Hopefully it's not as simple as that...also adding new cheats isn't available if advanced settings are hidden. Or it might be a special version of cracked 1.7 that says 1.6.
