Default Donkey Kong 64 is now on the Wii U Virtual Console

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1CaSfY9AQw

It even gets the DK Rap timing and framebuffer effects perfectly.
Why it did take you so long, Nintendo?

Most likely hardware limitations and not because of the whole Rare-Microsoft thing as Rare execs themselves debunked that myth

The DK Rap doesn't seem perfectly synced, unless it was never perfect on the real N64? Genuinely curious about that actually, since I spent quite some time seeing if I could sync the DK rap. If this video is accurate, then I wasted my time .

Looks good though. I wonder how they emulate it.

Yeah, it's been years since I've seen the real version, but it's sure as heck better than what unofficial emulators can do,

But I think I found a recording from original hardware (you can tell it's native res due to aliasing/jaggies)

Edit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npuuTBlEb1U

Maybe one could compare the videos...? One thing is sure, Nintendo wrote better emulation code this time around

See how easy it is to make a mistake? You shouldn't be too critical of others .

Anyway, ya it looks like my suspicions were semi-correct. The timing is indeed off in that wii-u video, but also the N64 (assuming youtube didn't significantly mess up the timing) does not perfectly sync the words to the song. All the "troublesome" parts of the song (during my audio testing) just happen to be that way on the real N64, so what a relief .

So much for Nintendo properly emulating DK64 .

Well, it sure as hell better than Wii64 emulating the game, emulation ain't gonna be perfect, but it's better than most other emulators, and the Wii N64 emulation was just...rife with odd issues.

Fair enough. It's much easier to emulate something when you have the source code though. Even good documentation makes things waaaay easier.
