No, I've tried Jabo's and I've tried different audio plugins. There's always lag in the same areas, like its a core issue.

just played for a little bit on class b rocket belt mission 2, it is abnormally jerky (fixed by changing the Counter Factor to 1 or 2, it's set to 3 in the RDB for some reason), but the audio is fine with jabo's audio plugin (sync game to audio enabled) and Limit FPS off (F4)

Hey, you're right! What counter factor do you have it on? I have it on 1.

Thank you so much

yeah 1 is the smoothest (smoother than the actual console); 2 is usually the closest to the actual console, and i don't know why pilotwings is set to 3 by default

Cool, one other question - is it always preferable then to have 'sync game to audio' on and turn the frame limiter off? (I mean generally, for all games)

That's weird, just tried playing the very first mission and it has minor crackling, even though the frame rate is solid.

I wonder if your fix only works when the frame rate is dipping.

Damn this game.

this configuration causes jerky video and is the equivalent of the infamous "Sync using audio" option in 2.1, which also causes jerky video, although not everyone notices this and I swear this never used to happen back when I was using Windows XP and different hardware years ago...

tl;dr use a different emulator

no issue here...very strange, might be hardware/driver dependant

i've had good experience with mupen64 0.5.1 and mupen64plus, but some will disagree...there's also 1964 which is pretty good too

There was one issue in the audio feedback layer with all plugins except LaC's Nemu64 audio, Jabo's DirectSound 1.7.something and zilmar's No Sound with Banjo-Kazooie causing the CPU to detect the wrong frame rate or something.

Good, now the PJ64 part is fixed.
Time to take a big shit all over this thread, so that now Pilotwings runs like cat crap.

Only problem with switching to 1964 at the moment is that I semi-intentionally made my RSP plugin not init on it.
