Super Mario Star Road error

First post here, any errors or mistakes, feel free to point them out.

Y'all probably familiar with this ROM hack by now, so let's just talk about the error I get.
I downloaded the FINAL version from here sm64hacks dot com/hack.php?id=2 which is the pre-patched .z64 file
When I put it in my ROM folder, it shows up with the Bad Rom? message (the whole use GoodN64 ordeal).
When I run it anyways, it gives me this:

Unhandled R4300i opcode at 80404020
unknown 40 20 40 20
Stopping emulation!

Fatal Error: Stopping emulation.

I downloaded GoodN64, but I have not clue how to use that. I decided to ask here first just in case.
Also, I tried looking for similar errors and came across a few posts by oddMLan, but none of his solutions worked for me. Probably because neither the problems or the game are the same.

Switch memory size to 8MB.

Enable advanced settings - Options > Settings.
Right-click game in ROM browser, select Edit Game Settings.
Change memory size to 8MB.

Haven't felt like this since I tried to mess with a cheat plugin for a PSX emulator...
