Imperial vs Metric Units | 24h clock vs 12h clock

Which of these do you use? Here in Sweden, we use both 24h and 12h clocks but we use only (officially) the metric units and Centigrade instead of Fahrenheit.

Whenever I see like an American or something talk about the Imperial units, I get confused for real because I have no idea what that would be with the units I know. What I do know is:

1 Yard = ~.95 meters
1 Inch = 2.54 centimeters
1 Gallon = ~4 liters
1 mile = 1.609 kilometers

I realize I could just use a unit converter, but I felt like starting a discussion about it here.

imperial units are retarded. Americans *really* need to stop using them and catch up with the 21st, no, the 20th century.

Like a mile is 5280 feet = 1760 yards = stupid numbers.

It really winds me up watching American TV when they always use imperial units. Or like watching things like mythbusters, when they say something is eight fluid ounces, of something with a density of 1 pound per gallon, in a gravity of 32.174 049 ft/(s^2), is 8 x 1 / 13.9 ounces in a gallon x 7 feet in a furlong / 278.7 furlongs in a second = bullshit stupid calculation that would be SO MUCH EASIER and more sensible in metric.

I don't understand why we've been using those either. They're stupid, but if I use the good stuff, I get called "un-American"

As for the time, I'm all for the 24h clock, since it's confusing to most people around here.

"what time is it?"

17:00, ma'am

"lol silly boy, don't you know that we don't have a 17:00?"

*poker face

I actually prefer a mix. I like Metres over yards so I think that's metric. However I prefer mph over kph so that's imperial. I also prefer am/pm I dunno what that is.

Having said how much better metric is, I admit we do still use mph for all road- and vehicle-related things in the UK. It doesn't matter so much there, though, because no-one particularly does science or maths or anything on that stuff. It's just round numbers that you have to remember not to go faster than.

After living in Japan for a couple of years, I've grown to love the metric system. Some things get very confusing with the standard system, so I can't see why we don't switch over.

Celsius to Fahrenheit = C * 1.8 (or 9/5)+32 = F
Miles to Km = miles x 1.6 = km
Feet to Meters = feet x 0.3048m

Yeah. Let's go with Metric, it makes more sense to me.

Nokia phones usually have unit conversions so I just use that. Although rarely.

Interestingly enough, I found this particular video clip to show how stupid imperial units are:

Using 10 as the arithmetic base and the decimal system for most math done by humans is also arbitrary; we have ten fingers.

For all I know, some Imperial units were based on the surface area of the English King's right testicle, but I still don't care, because you guys are preaching about the obvious here XD.

The fact that the metric system is algorithmically easier, goes without saying ! But arbitrary bases are a matter of perspective, because laziness from conversion or using the quantity of (10) as a base could have their own controversies.
