Hey, Guys!
I am a new user on this forum. I was wondering is anyone still working on this project any more. I love Project64, but is there any recent updates or whatever that is making this any better. Thanks Guys! |

Not much is happening with Project64 itself, there's only one developer left and he is often busy with other things and its a bit of a gamble when he finds time and motivation to do some work on this. There are however numerous plugins that are being worked on by other people you'll find them if you dig around in this forum, HatCat is the most active here in terms of development working on a pixel-accurate graphics plugin and his own rsp. There some more activity outside of this board with Gonetz starting work on a modern OpenGL plugin

Even that is outdated, a new Wii 64 version is supposedly in the works, but until it's released, consider it "dead".

And what's the best possible future for these emulators? I mean, is the Wii even powerful enough for homebrew N64 emulation with perfect speed/compatibility as a target?
Sure, Nintendo released some N64 games on the Wii using emulation (i suppose) but this is Nintendo, they have the resources, the staff and the knowledge of their own hardware. The PC will always be the best platform for emulation. I spent some time with homebrew emulators in consoles, especially on the original XBOX. But the only thing they had to keep me away from the PC was the TV/Controller friendly interface that allowed you to lie on the couch and control everything from your pad. Now you can do this sort of thing with the PC as well. There are various interfaces like Hyperspin or RetroArch. Setting them up is the difficult part (especially Hyperspin) but after that, i have no reason to ever come back to homebrew emulators on any console. Dat i5 will run anything better compared to any other CPU on any console. Last edited by Tasoulis; 7th September 2014 at 11:33 AM. |

I wouldn't hold your breath, there's only like, what, one of the main dudes still "working" on it, and even then, I doubt those who have skills will want to rewrite the core, if that's what needed to fix the timing issues.
