I use w, a, s and d to move, space to jump, shift to attack, and b to duck/ground pound in super mario 64
EDIT: W = up A = left S = down D = right

For those with problematic keyboards that are full of ghosting limitations, here is my setup:

I,K,J,L=Analog Stick

T,G,F,H=C-buttons

Q,W,E=L,R,Z

D,S=A,B

^v<>(cursor keys/arrow keys)=D-pad

Hope this really helps for those with the irritating ghosting issues, but some can be even worse and require different keys than this.

Digital Pad: J/I/L/K (left/up/right/down)
Control Stick: arrow keys

So if anyone thinks there is a better config please let me know!
I no longer use this config.

Someone pointed out a better one. It took me a few days to get used to it but actually I do a lot better with it.

Code:
START button: E
A button: J
B button: K
Z-trigger: O
L Button: U
R Button: I
C-buttons: {l p ' ;} (left/up/right/down)
Digital Pad: arrow keys
Control Stick: WASD
At first I was like WTF? Not one single thing about the pattern of the keys in that config even looks logical but then I found the guy had used this config on many different types of controllers for different platforms. At least for N64 I like it better than my old one. Again, I didn't get used to it right away. It was pretty non-intuitive for me at first but with a little patience you'll be glad you put up with it.

My old config is still good IMO but the thing being improved upon is it always required having both my left and right hands ready for opposite ends of the keyboard (as far right as the NUMPAD and as far last as A/S for the A and B buttons). I find with my new config I can play games single-handedly more often so to speak.

Set analog range to 99% and deadzone to 1% if not already done.

You can hold a direction to keep Bowser spinning at the same speed with no slowing down,so as lon as a direction is held when hitting each key,it should work.

What kind of keyboard is being used? Many keyboards are utter garbage because of ghosting issues with multiple keys.
Its sad that a laptop's dedicated keyboard has worse ghosting than my wireless Logitech K400 Plus which I have mapped IKJL for analog because cursor keys end up with ghosting more easily.

I desperately want a wireless keyboard with a touchpad that also has anti-ghosting but at the cost of needing 4 AA batteries instead of 2,but that may not exist.

There is some amazing cheaply priced wired anti-ghosting keyboards, even ones also having touchpads.
A wired one would restrict myself because I have no setup for a desk to use it on,nor with a proper mouse.
