Default Version 2.0 VI/s Crash on Banjo Kazooie

Halfway through the game, my emulator started crashing. I have been playing Banjo Kazooie and I reached a point where the game (and by that i mean emulator) will run normally and then just randomly crash at loading screens (i.e. every time i go through a door from one area to the next). The screen turns black and the only noticeable error besides the black screen is that the VI/s (vertical interfaces per second?) start wigging out and raise to the 6000 range and continue to rapidly increase and decrease between 5000 and 7000...? This is usually in the 50 to 70 range...haha. So I have no idea if there is a fix or not. I tried going back a few saves, but the same problem still occurs. I am running it on a windows 7 HP laptop if that helps. If game info is important, I am at the part of Banjo Kazooie halfway through the Rusty Bucket Bay. I am very computer savvy, but when it comes to emulators, I'm not a pro. I hope someone has some insight on what I can do without loosing all the progress i have made in this game. I will check back periodically. Thank you.Project_64_Screenshot.jpg

Seems to be working so far thank you. If the problem continues I'll post back. Thanks!
