Xbox controller not working--what to do?

New to project 64 and emulating in general. Have a cheapo Xbox 360/One controller I picked up at Wal-Mart to play Skyrim with. Trying to use it on Project 64, but it is not recognized. Should I get a better controller or is the problem with Project 64.

I am using the one that came with the X-BOX One and the mapping does not pick it up at all. Might be just the X-box Controller.
