N64 USB controller not working in a usb HUB

I have Project64 2.3.2.202 on my laptop although my laptop only has 1 usb port. So I bought a powered USB 3.0 hub assuming I could plug in multiple controllers and it work. But it doesn't even work with 1. My computer recognizes still as a controller but the emulator does not recognize it through the hub only directly into the USB port. Anyone have any ideas ? I've read people have gotten xbox controllers to work through it.
