Default Control axis problems in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark

Two of my fave games, way back, were goldeneye and perfect dark. I have been trying to play them tonight on Project64 1.6 with both a Logic3 usb controller and keyboard and mouse set-ups.

The problem is that whatever I do, I end up with one set of controls when I'm using the aim button, and another when I am not. Specifically, if I map movement to wasd and view/aim to the mouse (using N-Rage's Direct Input 8 v2 1.80a, although I get exactly the same problem using Jabo's Direct Input 7 1.6 with the controller), what happens is that viewing/aiming works well enough when I am using the aim button, but as soon as I let go of it (i.e. for normal movement), pushing up or down on the mouse becomes moving forward and backwards instead of looking up and down, and w and a become looking up and down instead of moving forward and backward. If I swap around the assignments, then I simply get the opposite problem that normal mode works fine but aiming mode is messed up ...

I have tried two different versions of Perfect Dark, and have exactly the same problems on both as well as on the one version of Goldeneye that I have. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution? Help massively and nostalgically appreciated

You are forgetting that the games shared the precise movement and aiming to the only analog stick of the N64 Controller. So you are going to have to not rely on the aim button and use a controller setting in-game that moves away from that default. I find the 1.2 Scheme to be the easiest to map controls too since the aiming (without the aim button) is now on the stick and moving is on the D-Pad/C-buttons. This helps on dual stick controllers and kb/mouse configurations.

If you want to use 2 real analog sticks and don't mind taking up the second controller settings for one setup. Then look into the 2.x settings in-game.
