Default Start button goes back?

I didn't see anyone else make a thread like this, so i'm making one , Whenever I press the start button on my Logitech controller it seems to go back to the previous screen. If it's in fullscreen and I press start it'll back out of fullscreen. I looked in the options and the key bindings tabs as well but to no avail. I also tried looking up solutions online but no one seems to have this problem,or i'm not typing my question in correctly. If I try to change the start button to something else it'll just push me back...does anyone else have this problem? can anyone help me?

I have Project64 version 2.3.2.202 by the way.

and windows 8.1 if that has any relevance.

Do you have any software installed like Joy2Key?

It sounds like you have Esc mapped to the Start button in something like Joy2Key.

I don't believe I do, All I did was connect my controller and it automatically worked, this was a while back though, should I try to uninstall and reinstall my controller or should I download Joy2key?

You can probably skip 1 and 2 as I don't think you have the logitech drivers installed.

1. Start by looking in the logitech driver options (if you have them). Look for anything related to mapping controller to keys.

2. If you cannot find anything, try uninstalling the logitech drivers. Then try Project64 with them uninstalled. You might be able to configure your controller without the driver.

3. Try running joy.cpl, search for it and run it. It will open windows game controllers dialog where you can select an option to use the controller for older programs under advanced. Goto Properties to calibrate/configure your controller as well.

4. If you've never installed available drivers for the controller, install them. Logitech controllers usually have 'extra' features that need custom drivers.

EDIT:
Make sure the switch on the underside of your controller is set to DirectInput. It switches between XInput and DirectInput.
