RetroLink N64 USB Controller Not Working

My RetroLink N64 USB Controller is not working on my Project64 emulator. The plug in and drive are all good to go and installed and the controller does work outside the EMU so I know it is not broken. Is there something I need to do to set it up the first time that I am just missing? PLEASE HELP!! SUPERMARIO 64 without a controller SUX!!
