Default Windows 10 and Project 64

I'll make this brief as there's not really much to say. I've since rolled back to Windows 8.1, but with Windows 10 I wasn't having blue screens like others have experienced, but rather crashes of the emu. Namely choosing a game from the list displayed by the emulator. I could not choose a game from the list! What happened was that the window momentarily froze followed by a message saying it must close.

However, I COULD still play games. To do this I had to choose File at the top and choose a game navigating to a game's directory. Now I use a Retrode, but I pretty much eliminated that as a potential cause. Has anyone else experienced the issue I'm describing here? If, so are there any solutions besides running in compatibility (didn't work for me)?

Any solutions are appreciated, but I'll wait to try them later. Now there IS a new Windows 10 preview that has been released within the last month, however with Windows 10's official release so close I'll just wait until then. Who knows, perhaps my issue stated above won't even exist by then.

EDIT: 8/7/2015

I STILL can't choose a game within the main window of ANY of PJ64 emus I have. It's not THAT big of a deal, but I've decided to settle (or maybe concede) for going to file, open, to play games. Other than this snag the emu seems to run just as good as it did before upgrading from 8.1.

Edit: 1/18/16

Meant to do this MONTHS ago, but anyhoo... if Project64.exe.manifest exists in the main directory then delete it. Doing so will allow you to choose games without crashing. Granted, this "could" be an issue that was fixed through various Windows updates and the problem file may no longer be a factor, but if it is... delete the file.

I personally have not had this issue at all with Windows 10. PJ64 has been working fine your issue is definitly weird. What version of PJ64 were you using?

I had been using Project 64 1.6, 2.1, and 2.2. What was strange was that after downloading Windows 10 I actually DIDN'T have the issue initially. It's something that would take effect after only a few uses. I could click all the different options in the menu bar, but AS SOON as I'd click a game, I'd get a "this program must close" or something to that effect. Again NO ISSUE on Windows 8.1. Something I could have explored and didn't was the controller I use. I used an XBOX One controller as I modded an existing driver to allow RUMBLE with nearly ALL input plugins for it. I have since then switched to a real N64 controller courtesy of the RAPHNET adapter (which I reviewed in depth here on the site) so maybe that could have caused some conflict. I don't know. Within the week I'll upgrade to 10 and find out again.

Yeah I use a mayflash adapter for controllers. I'll try out some more see if I can get a BSOD. I have had some emulator crashes as well as the nrage plugin not working with the C buttons. But jabos works fine. I also used builds from emucr which are more up to date then the current one released. So that could be it to. I'll dow load 2.2.0.3 from the site tonight.

Microsoft has to fix BSODS and compat mode isn't that much of a hassle for a workaround till updates trickle in

Why are people so eager to update to Windows 10 if it's giving them so much trouble. I honestly don't know anything compelling or any good reason, people should just stick to 7 or 8.1 IMHO.

Well, it's FREE! That is it's free for those who qualify. So... why NOT take advantage of an offer like that. Rollbacks are also available within 30 days of "UPGRADING" to Windows 10. Anywho, I'm actually still having the same issue with official Windows 10 as I did with 10's preview builds. I cannot choose a game within the emulator's windows. It's actually worse NOW as the emu simply "stops" working and must close. I'm not sure what to do at this point, but I do have 1 or 2 more ideas to look into.
