Unhappy Beginner; Need Help With OOT Graphics

I am a total beginner at emulators, but I just had to play OOT again. I haven't played it since I was little, and it's killing me that I never finished.

I have a brand new computer with a plentiful graphics card.
When I started up OOT, Link looked even better than on the N64, but the backgrounds looked awful and much worse than usual. There was a distinct contrast.

I am a beginner at emulating, but not a complete computer n00b. If someone could help, and possibly give me instructions on how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it. Seriously, my childhood is in your hands.

That's just how they look, you can't "fix" it

Seriously? The background graphics look that bad? I mean we're talking UGLY here. I have seen plenty of LP's, and none of them had that bad of graphics.

Sigh...I've decided to just suck it up and admit it, "I am a graphics whore."

I think I'll just play how it is. My childhood will be relived, and nothing is going to stop me.

Odds are that the videos you've seen are using an HD texture pack, which is why they look "better"

If you want a texture pack, you can google something like "Ocarina of Time HD Texture Pack" and download one.

But note that you'll have to download a different video plugin to use it, guides for which can be found pretty much anywhere.

It'd be better if you were playing it on an actual N64 with a CRT screen though

Actually OP is probably right about the backgrounds.

On most HLE video plugins they're just point-sampled without native VI filtering, so they're not necessarily exactly the same as on the N64.

The frame buffer effect of Link in the Equipment Subscreen is even worse.
