GameCube controller issues

So for many years, I’ve been using Project 64 with my GameCube controller and have had no issues with it until recently. Now whenever I hit the Z button, it does one of these things; opens Steam as a Steam recognized controller, it moves the mouse cursor and/or right clicks, or it raises or lowers the volume when I go up or down on the Joystick. This is incredibly annoying and I cleared my controller and re-configured all my controls again but it only made things worse. How do I fix????

This has nothing to do with pj64, you need to fix it in steam.
