Lightbulb rumblepak visual output

So for those of us with only crappy laptop speakers, someone else's suggestion of subwoofer output for rumblepak wouldn't work great. But what about a visual cue? Anything from a small blinking red light in the corner of the screen to just a picture of the pack with a vibration animation. True while this provides no feedback for games like star fox where the point is to feel the action, it is great in puzzle games where the rumble or intensity/ frequency of the rumble is a hint. Like in Zelda when you get near a secret. . its that or somehow get the ps3 rumble to work..

I tried checking the "visual rumble" checkbox in the controller plugin, but I saw absolutely nothing while playing. It doesn't seem to work at all unless I am missing something.
