lol but it gets downloaded the exact same way either way whether you install via the DirectX link or install just that particular file, so for that single library both methods are "proper".

Yep, that's fixed it, though I could have sworn I already had DirectX on my system. Ahh well, thank you very much for your help guys.

I'm with you man. Why an extended installation of DirectX for a controller plugin is needed is beyond me; something tells me rabiddeity's original overhaul of N-Rage's plugin was a little more efficient.

improper runtime placement for the latest Dx and MSVC runtime results in configuration error messages

Either automatic placement or manual placement / individual downloading can result in improper placement though.
