Paper mario 64 issues

so i have a problem in my paper mario 64 game... I think it's just me that doesn't understand but when i do an attack like the multiple jump, i can't do more than 1 jump... i tried every button of my PS4 controller but nothing seems to work.. do i have to equip a badge ? or do i juste miss one configuration for my controller ?

You need to time the "A" button exactly. You might also need a badge, I'm not sure.
