Settings Problem

Hello. I have a very annoying problem with this emulator, and it's that I cannot access the settings menu.
Every single time I try to open up the settings menu, the emulator freezes and stops working.
Is there any solution to this problem? I can't play any rom hacks just because of this.

though i went into console settings aswell and the wheel is not recognised as a device in there, could this be a cause of issue/s?
