Lightbulb N64 CPU Overclock feature

How feasible is to add this to Project64? There are already some 1964 edited builds like Pistolgrip's 1964 build and Retroralph's 1964 Ultrafast. I recall zilmar said it would like to implement it, but that was long ago.

Based on my experience with 1964, it makes audio sync even harder to maintain.

It is a cool feature, but I doubt you can simply drop it in there and hope everything else still works.

But how many games will benefit from it?

Only the games that have unlocked frame rate (like most games made by RARE) or big slowdown problems like Perfect Dark and Turok 2. Still, a cool feature to have for these games though. Try setting counter factor to "1" in these for some slight improvements in speed and less slowdowns.

Yes, you're right, the difference is definetly more noticeable in games with unlocked framerate. Although every game, unlocked FPS or not, sees an improvement (faster loading times, less slowdowns, more stable FPS). I don't really know if Project64 is focused on accuracy or funcionality, or a mix of both. I don't think it will require heavy modifications to the source. It's a cool feature nonetheless. Maybe when Project64 gets better timing, we'll see a feature like this. First step is to get rid of that "Counter Factor" hack.

Just thought i'd post something useful about overclocking the n64 CPU.

If you pop over to the PCSX2 forums (can't post links yet) and look for the Kingdom Hearts 60 FPS thread, Post number 50 you'll see a proof of concept, Basically you can see there are codes you can find in games (on the PS2 and PSP so far) that you can raise the FPS limit. Sadly this isn't looked into further because the real PS2 couldn't run these games at a stable 60FPS and without PCSX2 overclocking (which would be extremely heavy on the CPU to the point i don't think any CPU today could run it) people have let it drop off.

Sadly i've no idea how to find codes like this, But i believe if you could find these codes, There may be a way to get a smooth 60FPS in n64 games.

Just a hunch though.

This game (and Perfect Dark) already has an unlocked frame rate though. You can play it at 60fps using a hacked version of 1964 called "1964 superfast".

I would try those codes on various other games. If the standards of the n64 were better than the ps1/ps2 you may be able to get then to work or if nothing else help you find the value.

Anyone have these codes handy? Cause I'd love some OoT and MM at 60fps
