Help with the Switch Pro Controller

hey ya'll

im new to emulators on PC, but after discovering Project64 and Banjo-Kazooie ROMS I knew i had to give it a go. I connected my Switch Pro Controller via USB cable, and it works fine when I use it with Steam. But when I try to set up the controls using the N-Rage plugin, everytime I click to assign a button, it automatically asigns one randomly, as if the buttons on the controller were being spammed. I don't have any other controllers available, so I'd really like to figure out how to set this up.

edit: after testing a few other emulators on my pc, it turns out they all have the 'spam button' problem.

Yeah, you'll have to configure it through steam, it won't work on it's own.
