This is bugging me a lot.
Reading Pj64's github, there´s a lot of discussion about keeping glide64 openGL 2.0 capabilites to keep old hardware running Project64 or similar. We are talking of harware circa 2005 or 2006 or about 10 years old. Why is that? I'm no programer nor I have experience or knowledge in emulation, but this question is like common sence for me: why not use newer hardware capabilities to make the emulation better, with less hacks and cleanner code? Current cheap hardware is much more capable, and it has better driver support, than it was 10 years ago, specially intel IGP, wich is the "best selling" GPU on the market. I know that N64 hardware is very difficult to emulate, and hacks are created to run a bunch of games (or just one) the closest as posible to the real hardware or to be playable, but in my (noobish) opinion, that does not justify keeping legacy hardware. |

I agree. Even though i was still keeping my Pentium 4 in 2014 before i finally had the budget to buy a new computer, even then i wished the scene to move forward to newer hardware for accuracy purposes. Especially for more complex systems like the N64.
Besides, why would you care if new N64 emulators and plugins support your 10 year old PC? Even if it works, it will be too slow. |

PENTIUM 4!? Heck I have N64 emulators running on my pentium 3 with a 16mb GeForce 2 Go!!! Runs fine!!! If it's ain't broke why fix it? If it's that big a deal why not add new features for new hardware and also leave the old stuff for old hardware?
It's not GC\Wii emulation. So i'm interested in knowing why the old hardware needs depreciated, what features are lacking that are so sorely needed? IDK if this is on topic but, has any one seen this? http://gliden64.blogspot.ru/ Last edited by cdoublejj; 2nd February 2016 at 03:35 PM. |
